In this year's celebration, the Regional Organization for Protection of the Marine Environment (ROPME) has chosen (Coral Reef Degradation) as a main theme for the conference,
Obviously, His Highness Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani and HH the Deputy Emir and Heir Apparent Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani, Pay great attention to the Qatari environment in general and the marine environment in particular, since it was the source of life for the people of Qatar in the past through its richness and diversity in the natural resources,
However, in the recent years the Degradation of Coral Reef Has increased because of the global warming and what is known as (noise pollution), and the traffic of hundreds of ships cruising Gulf waters.
Therefore, the Ministry of Environment in collaborated with the University of Qatar by establishing an artificial coral reefs containing 500 parts in front of tourist Sealine Beach Resort to protect the marine environment from degradation and provide safe habitat for fish to attract tourist and residents.
