Head of "Green Line" environmental group in Kuwait, Mr. Khalid Al Hajiri, revealed an official document issued by Kuwait Oil Company confirming the leak of 500 oil barrels in the last leakage accident in Al Ahmadi refinery last August.
He added:" Our sea and fish are polluted and desalination plants are facing sea pollution risks.", and "Sea is polluted with chemical and oil materials."
Kuwait State Security Service appealed for investigation in environmental crimes made against Kuwait and its children, pointing to such investigation shall come within warnings frame made by Green Line environmental group over the past years.
Kuwait State Security Service called for establishing a division specialized in the environmental crimes after their risks reached the level of State's destruction. Al Hajiri showed that the greatest risk faced by the desalination plants is the pollution coming from the sea indicating that "Oil spot disaster which was formed as a result of oil leakage was not dispersed nor treated and discharged unless after control process lasted for whole six months as per officers statements in National Oil Company.
This indicates that oil spot leaked from Al Ahmadi refinery had threatened water supplies as they are close to the Public Desalination plants, as well as they are forming dangerous risk for the people living in the southern area.
