It is worth mentioning that the port of Alexandria suffered from this problem several times the latest one was the spill of the oil from an anchored vessel from Malta during loading operations which led to the appearance of an oil slick over an area up to 1600 m2 causing several environmental problems and hindrance of maritime traffic.
The Ministry of State for Environmental Affairs has taken the necessary legal action against the vessel and they addressed the Alexandria Port to prevent the ship from leaving the port until the payment of fines and reparations for the environmental damage that caused by the incident which is estimated to be four hundred thousand Egyptian pounds.
